Texas Scramble – Handicap Allowance

On Monday 17 May we play our first team game – Texas Scramble.  Please note that there will be no limit to the stroke allowance.

Our decision not to adhere to the traditional limit of 6 strokes was influenced by the introduction of the World Handicap System (WHS) calculation for determining stroke allowance (see earlier posting).  And the fact that using traditional methodology, every team would be playing from a handicap of 6!

I am sure that everyone will agree that the historical decision to introduce a limit in the first place was to try and create a level playing field, however, many would argue that there is little evidence that it ever achieved it’s objective.

With good advice and help from Richard Hone, we had a close look at the possible effects from removing the 6 stroke limit.  And our provisional findings are that at the very least, no team should be unfairly disadvantaged.  So, let’s have go, the experiment will we are sure prove very interesting.

After the game on Monday there will be a thorough assessment of the outcome, and a more detailed analysis that will determine the format for future Texas Scrambles.

IMPORTANT:  On Monday Master Scoreboard will take care of the calculations illustrated below.  And remember, you can’t sign in or enter your score on-line. Just post your card in the box

The rules regarding handicap adjustment have changed, and it is now a little more involved.  The example below best demonstrates the formulae: –

(the above limit is applied after playing handicaps have been calculated)

The minimum number of drives per player is:

4 for 4 man teams

5 for 3 man teams
