Rules: All Competitions

Competition Rules

(Updated 24 May 2019)

Please note

It is a condition of entry for all our competitions that when applicable all entrants MUST sign in on the computer and enter their score on completion of their round.  Anyone failing to do so will: –
  • be deemed not to have entered the competition
  • not have their score included in any aggregate competition or Order of Merit
  • ineligible to win a prize voucher
  • have their entry fee returned.

If on the day there are technical problems with signing in and/or entering your score, please inform the organisers asap.

There are good and legitimate reasons for introducing the above.  All Seniors competitions are closed and published on the day.  Organisers find that Handicap Master is a significant and valuable aid in eliminating mistakes and ensuring that final results are true and accurate.

It is also important to add that entering the score on to Handicap Master after the ‘time out’ is not a straight forward task, and there are many occasions when no one is available who has the expertise (or authority) to carry this out.

 Monday Club Rules of entry

To see rules for mixed competitions, click here

Entry Fees: All golfers playing in the Monday Club have to pay the entry fee irrespective of whether or not they are taking part in the competition (unless outside of the allocated tee times, and not playing in the competition, see ‘Tee times’ below).  All entrants must be registered and their entry fee paid by 08:30 am. Anyone arriving after this time, will, at the discretion of the organisers be refused entry.  Exceptions can be made if entrants telephone the organisers informing them of late arrival.

Handicap: To be eligible for a prize voucher or prize you must have an active CLUB handicap. No one is prevented from playing in the Monday Club without an active handicap (including visitors).  However, the score will not be considered for the competition and such players will not be eligible for any prize or prize voucher.  This rule also applies to players who are in the process of acquiring 3 cards in order to obtain an handicap.

2’s competition: Players can optionally pay £1 each to make up a prize pot that is shared equally among any players scoring a 2 on any of the holes. Any player(s) scoring a hole-in-one takes the full prize pot. The absence of an active and/or CLUB handicap does not preclude anyone from entering the 2’s competition. However, the rules above still apply.

Tee times: The first tee time allocated to the Monday Club is 08:32, officially the last tee time allocated is 9:30 am. Because of the popularity of the Monday Club, tee times have frequently extended beyond this.  This increasingly puts a strain on the organisers to produce the results and issue prizes within a reasonable time-frame.  Because of this problem it has been decided by the Seniors Committee that the last tee time will be 09:30 am.

All Rules of Golf to apply. It is not acceptable to waive a Rule of Golf e.g. recording gross scores, handicap recorded, markers signature, players signature etc.

If you have any queries about any of the above, please do not hesitate to discuss with any member of the Seniors Committee.

Team Games  (PAGE DOWN)

Texas Scramble – 4 players

This is a stroke play competition, and each team would normally consist of four players.

To determine the team handicap, combine the 4 players (playing) handicaps, calculate 10% of that value and that is the number of shots the team receive at the end of the round. So a team with handicaps of: –

Player 1 = 12
Player 2 = 21
Player 3 = 18
Player 4 =   6
57 X 10%* would play off 5.7 – The team score = 80 – subtract 5.7 leaves a final score of 74.3

* 12.5% for a team of 3 players

Please note that the maximum handicap in 4 man Texas Scramble is 6

All players can tee off at each hole.

The nominated team captain then selects the best drive and marks the position (within 6 inches) with a tee peg (not nearer the hole). A minimum of four tee shots per player to be used. The remaining two drives can be used by any of the players.

The other players then retrieve their balls.

The player whose ball has been chosen marks his ball then plays his next shot first.

The remaining players then play within six inches of the marked ball (not nearer the hole). Note! Golf balls shall be placed on closely mown areas and dropped if the chosen ball in play is in the rough or a hazard.

The above method of play is followed until the green is reached.

On the green the same method applies. The ball chosen is marked by a putter head length and players putt from the same spot in turn.

Each player must mark the ball after putting. Play continues from each chosen position until the ball is holed. Note! If a player putts and misses but then inadvertently knocks the ball into the hole, then that score counts.

The score is the total number of shots from the chosen spots (including the tee shot).      At the end of the round the total for each hole is added together and the strokes received subtracted to give the total net medal score for the round. The winning team will be the one with the lowest medal score.

All other rules of golf apply to the “Ball in Play”

Texas Scramble – 2 players

This is a stroke play competition, and each team would normally consist of two players.

To determine the team handicap, combine the 2 players (playing) handicaps, calculate 25% of that value and that is the number of shots the team receive at the end of the round. So a team with handicaps of: –

Player 1 =  18
Player 2 =  26
44 X 25% would play off 11 – The team score = 80 – subtract 11 leaves a final score of 69

All players can tee off at each hole.

The nominated team captain then selects the best drive and marks the position (within 6 inches) with a tee peg (not nearer the hole). A minimum of seven tee shots per player to be used. The remaining four drives can be used by any player.

The other player then retrieve their ball.

The player whose ball has been chosen marks his ball then plays his next shot first.

The partner then play within six inches of the marked ball (not nearer the hole).

Cha’ Cha’ Cha’

This is a Stableford competition, and each team would normally consist of four players playing off full handicap.

Definition: In the 4-Man Cha Cha Cha golf tournament format, each member of the team plays his or her ball throughout. But a 3-hole rotation exists for determining how many scores are used to create the team score.

On the first hole (cha), the highest Stableford score counts as the team score.

On the second hole (cha cha), the two highest Stableford scores count as the team score.

On the third hole (cha cha cha), the three highest Stableford score combined count as the team score.

The rotation starts over on the fourth hole.

All other rules of golf apply to the “Ball in Play

Team Stableford

A team would normally consist of 4 players playing off full handicap

Each member of the team play their Stableford game as normal.

At the end of each hole, the best 3 out of the 4 total scores are added together to give a total team score. e.g.

Player A scores 3 points

Player B scores 3 points

Player C scores 1 points

Player D scores 2 points.

The lowest score (1 point by player C) is disregarded.

The scores of the remaining top 3 players (3, 3 and 2) are added together to give a team total (in this example, 3, 3 and 2) of 8 for the hole.

The totals for each hole are added together at the end of the round to give a total team score.

All other rules of golf apply to the “Ball in Play”

Team Multiplier

A team would normally consist of 4 players playing off full handicap

Each member of the team play their Stableford game as normal.

At the end of each hole, the best 3 out of the 4 total scores are multiplied together to give a total team score. e.g.

Player A scores 3 points

Player B scores 3 points

Player C scores 1 points

Player D scores 2 points.

The lowest score (1 point by player C) is disregarded.

The scores of the remaining top 3 players (3, 3 and 2) are multiplied to give a team total (in this example, 3x3x2) of 18 for the hole.

The totals for each hole are added together at the end of the round to give a total team score.

Scores of zero are disregarded, for example:

Player A scores 3 points

Player B scores 2 points

Player C scores 0 points

Player D scores 0 points

Scores by players C and D are disregarded.

The scores of the remaining 2 players ( 3 and 2) are multiplied to give a team total (in this example, 3×2) of 6 for the hole.

Note: Par for the round would be 2 x 2 x 2 x 18 holes = 144

All other rules of golf apply to the “Ball in Play”

(7)

Medalford

Full handicap.

The front 9 holes are stroke play (medal).

The back 9 holes are played as a Stableford.

To determine your final score, subtract back nine Stableford points your front nine net score.  e.g.

Your playing handicap =18

You score 45 gross on the front 9.  Deduct your handicap (9) = 36 (net).

You score 21 Stableford points on the back 9.

Your final score = 36 (your front 9 score) minus 21 (your back 9 points) = 15.

The player with the lowest total wins the competition.

All other rules of golf apply to the “Ball in Play”

    29 divide by 2 = 14.5 Team plays off 15 (round up).

Both players tee off and then choose which ball to play from there. The player whose drive or tee shot is not chosen plays the second shot, then play alternate shots from there until the ball is holed out. On the next hole, both players again tee off and the process is repeated.

Adjustments to Playing Handicaps for ladies playing in Monday Club competitions

When a lady plays in any Monday Club competition the adjustments set out in the table below will apply. The adjustments are based on the guidance given in the Confederation Of National Golf Unions (CONGU) handbook 2012 – 2015 : Appendix O. However in the circumstances where the CONGU guidelines suggest increasing playing handicaps for the men the Monday Club organisers prefer to take a more practical approach of reducing the playing handicaps for the ladies. This does not affect any appropriate handicap adjustment calculations for players in any qualifying competitions.

For all competitions the ladies will play from the red tees.

Competition Men’s Hcp Score Ladies Hcp Score Diff Ladies Hcp Adj
Texas Scramble (yellow tees) Net 70 Net 72 2 Increase by 2
Cha Cha Cha (yellow tees) 37 Pts 37 Pts 0 No change
Yellow Spot (yellow tees) 37 Pts 37 Pts 0 No change
Medal (white tees) Net 72 Net 72 0 No change
Medal (yellow tees) Net 70 Net 72 2 Increase by 2
Stableford (white tees) 35 Pts 37 Pts +2 Reduce by 2
Stableford (yellow tees) 37 37 0 No change
Medalford (yellow tees) 35-19=16 36-19=17 1 Increase by 1
Modified Stableford (yellow tees) 37 Pts 37 Pts 0 No change

Handicaps are based on the Standard Scratch Score (SSS), so if a player plays exactly to their handicap in a medal competition their Net score will be the same as the SSS.

The Handicap Score for a Stableford competition is the score a player will achieve if they play exactly to their handicap (i.e. Net SSS).

A difference in either the Net or Stableford scores for Ladies & Men is used as the basis for adjusting the playing handicap to achieve an “even playing field”.

Competition Tees Standard Scratch Score Par Hcp Stableford Score
Ladies – Red Tees 72 73 37
Men – Yellow Tees 70 71 37
Men – White Tees 72 71 35
